As a major initiative towards Private partnership in Public space, licenses were granted to fifteen players for operating their own container carrying trains on Indian Railway network.

With view to expand its network GDL signed the concessionaire agreement with Indian Railway and took a 50 crore license to run trains all over the Indian Railway Network.

Gateway Rail Freight Ltd. (GatewayRail), a subsidiary of Gateway Distriparks Ltd. (GDL) thus came into being as holder of the above omnibus license.

In its effort to have a presence in each strategic sphere of the logistics space, GDL added the Rail services in form of GRFL in addition to existing spectrum of services.
